From the Author
I've lived near the beach for close to thirty years, so it was fun to finally write about it. This book had many inspirations; every time I visit a local beach and watch the tourists in their kayaks, the barking sea lions and experience the stinky smell, I chuckle and think about my book. The theme of this book is freedom, and I wanted to explore how freedom is experienced by different characters. I've written a suspense and a romance, and this time around I wanted to combine the two. Enjoy reading!

This would be an excellent book for a high school English class

This book is deceiving in that the beginning does not tell you what the book is about. As you continue, everything starts coming together and all the plots intertwine. It is extremely interesting with lots of unexpected results. This would be an excellent book for a high school English class. There is no bad language or vulgar overtones yet it has a lot of different topics to discuss. I very much enjoyed reading this book.

Best beach read of the summer!

A page turner of a mystery taking place in a typical Southern California beach town. The plot is both gripping and believable, and the characters are well-developed and reflect typical personas found in any beach city. So realistic (I live in a beach town myself), I was sure I was going to read about a local haunt on the very next page. The best beach read of the summer!

Suspenseful Beach Read!

What a fabulous read I had this summer with The Smallest of Waves by Janice Coy! This book drove me a bit crazy, though, because I'd be at work and want to get home so I could read another chapter...... or two...........or three! The author introduced just the right number of characters so that the reader was able to follow the intertwined story lines easily, but not predictably. I want to point out that not only was this a suspenseful read, it was also educational. The author put a great deal of research into various aspects of her storyline which assisted the reader with a clear visualization of events. You can see each character (including a cute little dog), you can feel, see, smell,( while chewing your fingernails --- suspense!) and wander your way through each well-crafted chapter. Loved it!

THE USS ENTERPRISE BOOK IS INCREDIBLE!

THE USS ENTERPRISE BOOK IS INCREDIBLE! I served on the USS Enterprise CVN-65 from 1986-1990. I completed 2 cruises. The first was a Western Pacific Cruise in 1988. The second was the 1990 World Cruise. I was 17-21 years old.I fueled jets and helos on the flight deck and spent 6 months as a guard in the brig (jail guard). Yes, there is a jail on board. I even watched Alec Baldwin and Fred Thompson film for the movie "The Hunt for Red October", Top Gun was also filmed on this famous ship. I bought this book and it brought back so many memories. It is the complete history of the "Big E" from laying the keel to it's decommissioning last year after 51 years of service. It is the first nuclear powered carrier and the biggest ship in the world for decades. The pictures are beautiful and plentiful. The Big E was in every conflict since 1961. From the Cuban Missile Crisis to the War on Terror. I bought my book a bit hesitant (because money is tight), but I am VERY HAPPY I did! I read when I go to bed and I've read the book from cover to cover (almost 700 pages) because it was so fun and interesting, it took me about a month (which doesn't happen often). It is the USS Enterprise encyclopedia, very detailed and precise. If you served, know a vet, a vet from the Big E or just intrigued about the best US Navy (I guess I am a bit biased) ship ever built, this is the book! I am buying another to keep it in mint shape as the ship is currently being dismantled and now part of history. I'm excited about USS ENTERPRISE CVN-80, which is scheduled to be built in the next decade or so. I am so proud I served on the Big E , it changed my life. Happy Holidays!

How often does one really haveto restore a shredded document, sneak out of a meeting (somehowcrawling under the conference table and scooting out, unnoticed byall), or avoid a stockroom avalanche? The authors make no apologiesfor wrapping the meat of this recording in a lot of Wonder Bread, butit's ultimately filling, if a little thin. Though it's highly amusingto hear how one can avoid a lion attack on the job or thwart a lunchthief (think hidden jalapeños), this is certainly a gag gift morethan a guide. But it's good fun. Right in the middle of ......

I bought the "original" "The Worst Case Scenario Survival Handbook". I loved its humor and so I gave this one a try. I cant say it's bad. However, it's somehow much more serious than the original one, thus less humorous and fun. The problem is: it's not indepth nor detailed enough to cover, in my opinion as a white collar for over 15 years, 1/5 of the common difficulties in an office.

In short, if you really wanna improve your survival opportunities in your job, there are many better alternatives in a bookstore. If you just wanna have fun, this is definitely not a good choice. Therefore, not recommended. If you really wanna buy it, I sincerely suggest you to read the "See sample pages" here on Amazon for a quick look of what those "tips" refer to.

Entertaining but less informative than the original Worst Case Book

Nice book on job interviews and surviving the workplace. Advice on how to set up your cubicle and common sense items on what to wear.

Some tongue in cheek parts though. Such as the section: "How to Get a Job You're not Qualified For". I hope nobody gets the Brain Surgeon job using the advise in this book!

Good advice such as staying positive during a job interview and answer confidently is addressed here.

Liked the area on how to disguise tattoos and how to fake tattoos if needed as well.

This book has some good information ,but is slated more toward corporate America, where you have a set dress code, and work in cubicles.

Silly, entertaining, but may actually be useful to someone!

Everyone has had dreadful bosses, scary or annoying co-workers, and everyone has felt that they arent' qualified for at least one job for which they are interviewing. Fewer of us get to sneak out of meetings- although many would love to!, or how to get out of various small places one could get trapped in. I personally really loved the section on "How to fix a Dented Company Vehicle" since my Volvo has a few dings I'd love to see gone.
The non-emergencies might be do-able; you might remember the various steps needed to pull those things off when you need a status-enhancing rumor to start flying around the workplace. Sadly, the emergencies will likely catch you unaware and you won't have the handy smooth edged guidebook in your pocket to pull out just as the office supplies start avalanching down upon you. Alas.
I was writing this review in order to be able to move the book out of my house when I decided I might need a refresher on some of these things. After all, someday soon my children will grow up and I'll need this book in case I decide to be a slacker! Just kidding!

Kindergarten-Grade 2-Fister Farnello loves dirt. One day he escapes his bath and runs into the woods where he meets a giant named Dirt Man, and the two become instant friends. They spend days playing until Fister becomes so filthy that even his own mother does not recognize him. Even the birds and mice that have taken up residence in his hair begin to complain. When moss appears in his bellybutton and a thick green cloud of stink comes out of his mouth instead of words, Dirt Boy can't take it anymore. He runs through the woods and back to his house. At first, his mother thinks he is a monster, but when she sprays him with a hose, "the faint shape of a certain long-lost boy" is revealed. "It took twenty-three bars of soap, sixteen bottles of shampoo, one hundred and seventy-nine gallons of bathwater, forty-four million bubbles, and eleven tubes of toothpaste to finally get Fister Farnello clean." This is a witty fantasy about a topic with which children are quite familiar. The bright, bold watercolor-and-gouache illustrations in various shades of green and brown capture the essence of filth. In addition, Manders used "acrylic paint, crackle medium, modeling paste, colored pencils, sponges, fingers, and old toothbrushes" to create Dirt Boy. Wacky depictions of filthy Fister and the giant will amuse children. An engaging tale appropriate for reading aloud.

The squishy delight of wallowing in mud and mess is the elemental appeal for young preschoolers in this mucky picture book. Fister escapes authority, his "clean-and-mean mother" who tries to force him into the bath. He runs away to the woods, where he finds a home in the bellybutton of a giant, who hasn't taken a bath in a thousand years. They play dirt games. When birds nest in Fister's hair and mice snuggle on his body, he begins to feel icky and slimy, and when the giant begins to use the word delicious, Fister runs home to mother, who scrubs and scrubs him deliciously clean. The pictures--in watercolor and gouache--glory in the dirt. There are close-ups of the giant's teeth covered in green gunk, of mushrooms sprouting from the boy's toes, and of Fister's stinky breath blowing out in a thick, green cloud. The story stays true to the slapstick fun of getting dirty, even as it admits to the coziness and comfort of being clean. Hazel Rochman
