What happened to my sweet vampire romance???
By The Texan Bookworm
In the beginning Lynsay (I feel we're on a first name basis since I've been reading her vampire romances since they first came out) wrote some cute and delightful romances that involved vampires and would make me laugh out loud. I couldn't eat or drink while reading them because I knew - just KNEW - at some point I would laugh until a pig snort came out. Then she left that part of the series and went towards the vampire enforcers. Now suddenly they have a cookie cutter plot and books are churned out every 6 months or so. Take this book for example.
Here's a girl who finds a guy naked in a cage and rescues him...ok.... then they start fooling around on the back of the plane.... Say what?!?! What the...? Really??? you think that in that in this type of situation that that would be first thing that you'd think about? Hey he's/she's hot - let's hump??? But wait - it gets better because then they jump off a plane and, wait for it, she hits her head rendering her unconscious for HOURS - H-O-U-R-S PEOPLE!! while her "life mate" swims (8 miles? through the night) single handedly towards shore hauling her (with head above water), holding on to a first aid kit and, oh yeah, fighting off a shark that comes nosing around. That's so believable right? And that head wound that created all those hours and hours of unconsciousness? It's nothing - just a little gash that doesn't prevent them from even pausing in their feverish perusal of each other as they deal with being stranded on a beach with the bad guys supposedly after them.
And that's all this book is - one cheesy sloppy clumsy fumbling after another (the terms "romance" and "love scene" are just too refined to apply). And then the big reveal comes and she learns vampires exist + she's now one, and the girl (heroine too lofty a title to give her) couldn't care less - there's no pause in the action because hey, she has the perfect body ("pow pow" to quote her initial response) and now life's peachy. Don't get me wrong - that's a heck of an incentive, but take Mary for example. Now Mary has lost her kids and grandkids but seems just fine because she has her sexy boy toy around (their story was the focus of the last book). So, to clarify in case you missed it, about a week after her fake death by fire, she's moving on with life and totally ok with the fact that her family is no longer part of her future and actually believe that she's dead (Mom of the Year award goes to.....) while she romps around totally consumed by the never ending heat of her lust.
As I'm reading this vomit I swear I can hear Lynsay laughing all the way to the bank since she's conned me into buying one last book even though the last 4-5 have been getting steadily worse and worse. And let me tell you - I sear by all that's Holy, this IS my LAST book. This has taken a couple of hours to slog through that I'll never get back. For the record, I refuse to continue to read the crud she's turning out - even if she were to start giving them away for free. Life's just too short. If you want a good vampire romance why not try your hand at writing one of your own. You'll actually have something to show for your time and, trust me, there's NO WAY you could do worse than the sludge I was just subjected to.
But, in case you're a die hard fan who hasn't given up hope and think she can redeem herself, there's yet another vampire hunter/enforcer/police novel coming out in MARCH 2017. If this is indeed the case, then bless your heart I hope for your sake she does a 180 instead of just changing the names of her characters. If you're fed up like me, why not try Jeanine Frost? Her series has ended and, full disclosure, touch on some bloody scenes now and then, but there's tons of thought, humor and character development throughout her Night Huntress series. What would you have to lose?

I'm Done
By motormouth65
Really? After 24 books, this is the best Ms. Sands can come up with? Maybe it's time to put the Argeneau series to rest, since (A)it's copy & paste from previous books, with a few original bits thrown in (B) it's not really about the Argeneaus any more (C) the characters have no depth, no humor, no wit and, at times, not a lot of brain power. I used to plug into these books and happily enter another world of amazing characters, sharp dialogue and activities I could barely imagine. It would seem she has exhausted her imagination with these characters and is just photocopying sections of previous books to glue it together. The last one was a disappointment, too, but I thought it might be a one off. This volume just re-iterates the last one. Sad. Maybe she is more interested in her bodice rippers now?
PS: I went back to Book One and started binge-reading and I am now back to book 12. Still has the sparkle, depth, wit and pure fun. Will
let you know where it goes off track, when and if I can identify that point.
PPS: I am now up to Book 20. The last two books have been kinda cut-and-paste, but not high volume. The characters are still crisp and
dialogue still sharp. Maybe it's just the last 2 books that boredom has crept in?
PPPS: Finished thru #22. IMHO, it is just the last two beyond this one that have collapsed under their own weight. Neither was interesting enough to merit a second read. Not sure what the issue is, but I'm not likely to buy the next one after two serious disappointments in a row.

I feel like I lost a good friend
By Great Dane Dame
I wish I had gone with my gut when I read the reviews but authors know that when die-hard readers see a new book in a series, they are under compulsion to own it; since this one was on sale, I thought, even if it's not great I can keep it. The sale price was too much! Although it almost makes my brain bleed to say don't buy a Sands book, I'm afraid that would be my recommendation. I am not a partier so I bought this yesterday with the idea of sitting down with a good hot toddy and a good book on New Year's Eve to ring out the year, but let's just say I hope the new year goes better than the old year went out. A reviewer has already adequately pointed out the inadequacies of the book so I won't go into those again. I am finding that I am outliving all my favorite authors. The worst part is as their writing goes downhill their prices go up and they actually think they deserve the money for this drivel. The sad thing is, you see the writing going downhill but hope springs eternal for the "flukes" to be over and back to what you loved to begin with. I can't imagine how hard it is to churn out books at the rate some of these authors are expected to and keep up the quality, however, you do sign the agreements and take the money, and your customers expect that you are giving them the same product. I wish many of these authors would go back and re-read their own books to remember what it was about their storylines and writing that made us fall in love with them in the first place. I applaud the reviewer who went back and did re-read the series--take her advice and stop around 20-22.
